Deep Wrinkles - Information about Causes and Treatments
Definition:
Wrinkles may be described as a small furrow, ridge, or crease on a normally smooth surface, caused by crumpling, folding, or shrinking. Wrinkle are ridges or crease in the skin.
Skin changes are among the most visible signs of aging. Evidence of increasing age include wrinkles and sagging skin. Whitening or graying of the hair is another obvious sign of aging. Skin wrinkles are grooves in the skin. Wrinkles can be on the surface of the skin or can be quite deep.
Causes of wrinkles:
These includes:-
- Cigarette Smoke: Smoking produces oxygen-free radicals, which are known to accelerate wrinkles and aging skin disorders and increase the risk for nonmelanoma skin cancers. Studies also suggest that smoking and subsequent oxidation produce higher levels of metalloproteinases, which are enzymes associated with wrinkles.
- Air Pollution: Ozone, a common air pollutant, may be a particular problem for the skin. One study reported that it might deplete the amount of vitamin E in the skin; this vitamin is an important antioxidant.
- Wrinkles are mainly causeed by the loss of elasticity with age.
- People who spend a lot of time in the sun are more prone to get affected by wrinkles.
- People who have family members with a lot of wrinkles.
Treatments:
The possible treatments for deep wrinkles are as:-
-
Botulinum: Botulinum is also a powerful muscle-relaxant, and tiny amounts of a purified form (Botox) are being injected into wrinkles to relax the surrounding muscles. It may benefit forehead and frown lines, crow's feet, lower eyelids, lines on the side of the nose, and the area between the upper lip and the nose. The treatment decreases the ability to frown or squint and may cause the corners of the mouth to turn down.
-
Laser skin resurfacing: It uses a carbon dioxide (CO2) or Erbium laser to remove areas of damaged or wrinkled skin, layer by layer. The procedure is most commonly used to minimize the appearance of wrinkle like fine lines, especially around the mouth or eyes - crow's feet wrinkles - and to remove blotchy skin pigmentation from sun damage.
- Eat Healthily: A diet with plenty of whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, and the use of healthy oils may protect against oxidative stress in the skin.
- Exercise: Daily exercise keeps blood flowing, which brings oxygen to the skin, an important ingredient for healthy skin.
- Quit Smoking. Smoking not only increases wrinkles, but smokers have a risk for squamous cell cancers that is 50% higher than nonsmokers' risk. Smokers should quit to prevent many health problems, not just unhealthy skin.
Withered skin has a very rough texture usually full of wrinkles. It is due mainly to over-exposure to extremes of climate such as too much sun or too much cold. Other factors that can result in a rough skin are: bags and sags, coarse skin texture, dull skin tone, and dark shadows.
