Autologen - InformationAutologen, is a newer form of collagen injections. Autologen are mainly derived from your own natural collagen. It is a material used in lip augmentation to produce a look of fuller lips. Autologen is derived from your own skin and then injected into the lips. Autologen is a filler made from autologous collagen which resists enzymatic degradation and allergic reactions. Similarly, Isolagen is autologous collagen taken from the patient and prepared for intradermal injection. Isolagen has not been fully tested yet. Autologen is somewhat more durable than bovine collagen because it does not get attacked by the immune system and may get partly cross-linked with local collagen at the treatment site. Injecting autologous collagen has a number of benefits including eliminating the risk of rejection, immunological reaction, and disease transmission. The major drawbacks to Autologen are the requirement of the previous surgical procedure to acquire skin and a processing time of 3-4 weeks. But, there is limited donor tissue and the same longevity issues as Collagen. Dermologen is pooled human collagen derived from cadaveric sources, so there are no significant limitations to supply. Wrinkle fillers, can be used to fill deeper lines, folds and creases of the skin. Examples include: collagen, fat, gortex, and newer products such as softform, autologen, alloderm and dermalogen. The amount of collagen yielded depends on the amount of skin removed.you have to obtain enough collagen from tummy tuck skin to fill several facial wrinkles three to five times. A total of 2-4 injections may be performed at one to three month intervals. Autologen is a product of the patient's own skin that might be harvested during a typical facelift or eyelid procedure. The product is actually autologous collagen that can be injected just like bovine collagen. The patients skin may be removed during a cosmetic procedure such as a facelift. The lips are injected with a combination of collagen, dermalogen, autologen and fat. Grafting involves injecting products like goretex, a biocompatible substance that comes in sheets or strips, alloderm and dermis fat.
