Diode Laser - Information about Diode Laser

The word Laser is expand as: Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. They work by bouncing and amplifying light between lenses and mirrors to produce an intense beam of light, which is coherent and monochromatic. The material(s) within the laser that are stimulated determines the wavelength of the light produced.

Diode laser, is the simplest laser, consisting of a high power laser diode emitting infrared (invisible) light at ~800-808nm. The longer wavelength allows deep penetration into the skin and safety for darker skin types, but with less efficacy for lighter and finer hair. Larger spot sizes and fast repetition rates are available, allowing rapid treatment of large body areas. Diode lasers are used to remove hair and to treat vascular and pigmented skin lesions such as birthmarks.

A laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light. The pigment located in the hair follicles absorbs the light emitted by the laser. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, which is just long enough to vaporize the pigment. This disables several follicles at a time to eliminate or significantly impede the hair's regrowth. However, inactive hair follicles and those containing minimal or no pigment are not adequately affected by laser treatment.

The main application of the diode laser, is in the removal of unwanted hairs. There are so many techniques available for hair removal. But diode laser is the best one because it is a painless procedure.

The LightSheer system is fast, which reduces treatment time. It provides long-lasting hair removal, which reduces the need for repeated treatment.

The LightSheer Diode Laser System has become the most popular laser hair removal device worldwide.

Diode lasers remove unwanted hair based on the principle of selective photothermolyisis. This refers to the process whereby the characteristics of the light energy including wavelength and pulse duration are optimized to selectively cause thermal injury to the hair follicle without injuring the surrounding tissue.

The light penetrates through the skin and is absorbed in the target pigment (melanin) found in the hair shaft. This causes the temperature to reach a sufficiently high level in the hair follicle so that the targeted hair structures are destroyed and regrowth is inhibited.

Some diode laser devices come with cooling mechanisms, which provide better results with Temporary hair removal is accomplished with conventional treatments such as shaving, waxing and epilation. Another method is the use of selective photolysis, which is light energy that is produced by the laser, and is targeted at the pigment in hair. This causes destruction of hair follicles while sparing surrounding structures (i.e., the skin).

Long lasting hair removal can be achieved with the use of several available lasers. Total temporary hair removal, which lasts for several months, can be done in almost all patients. However, total permanent laser hair removal is not commonly done. Stable permanent hair removal may be possible in some cases and usually requires multiple treatment sessions.
