Restylane - Applications and Side Effects of Restylane

Restylane is a new form of injectable filler that provides advantages over fat and collagen injections. Hyaluronic acid is a substance found in most of our bodies as it provides volume and fullness to the skin. Restylane has been proven to last longer than fat and collagen injections. It maintains its shape using the body's own moisture.

Restylane can be used to either shape facial contours, smooth wrinkles, or sculpt lips. An advantage to the Restylane procedure is that it enhances one's appearance with a minimal amount of pain. The fine needles used for the treatment, minimize pain.

Although pain is minimal, for treating wrinkles and shaping facial contours, patients can request a topical anesthetic.

Restylane is a safe and natural cosmetic filler that is immune to these drawbacks given its unique chemical composition. Restylane, is a crystal-clear, biodegradable  gel, which is injected into the dermis in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. The result is instantaneous, producing a long-lasting, natural enhancement, gentle and safe to the skin.

Restylane, has clearly become the favorite filler for enhancing lips and reducing nasolabial folds. It is to be implanted through a 30-32 gauge needle in the dermis layer of the skin.

Applications of Restylane are as:-

Restylane is a transparent hyaluronic acid gel that is indicated for rhytides, especially near the nasolabial folds. This hyaluronic acid gel temporarily adds volume to facial wrinkles to smoothen appearance.

These includes:-

  • Lip augmentation and enhancement.
  • Reducing the appearance of lines around the mouth.
  • Modifying nasolabial folds and eye trough deformities.
  • Facial contouring of the cheeks and mouth.

Side effect of Restylane:-

Restylane is safe and effective when treating moderate to severe wrinkles around the nose and mouth. The side effects associated with the use of Restylane include: redness, bruising, swelling, tenderness and moderate pain. In those instances where side effects are present, they typically dissipate within a few days.

The side effects include pain, bruising, erythema, swelling, and pruritus. Restylane is contraindicated in patients with severe allergies.
