Moisturizers - How to Apply Moisturizers
The perfect moisturizer must have these 3 requirements: It smells best, feels best & goes on without feeling greasy on the skin. It should never irritate or burn your skin. Moisturizers are a very important part of dermatology since keeping the skin moist is one of the key factors in healthy skin. Most moisturizers available are composed of some formulation of oil and water, with added ingredients that may or may not help to combat dry skin.
The most effective moisturizing emollient available is petrolatum or Vaseline, which provides a coating over the skin through which water cannot escape. Moisturizing creams contain more oil than water and, as a result, are also very effective. These also may feel a little greasy, but less so than ointments or petrolatum. Lotions are the most popular moisturizer, but because they contain more water than oil, they are not as effective. Humectants are a class of moisturizers which do not contain oil and may be classified as oil-free.
Moisturizers are complex mixtures of chemical agents specially designed to make the external layers of the skin softer and more pliable, by increasing its hydration.
How to apply moisturizers:-
It involves the following steps:-
- Wash face and hands with cleanser and warm water.
- Apply the cream or lotion on both sides of your forehead and in the middle of your forehead in three small dabs.
- For drier skin may need to reapply moisturizer several times throughout the day.
- Dot moisturizer all over your face and blend in thoroughly. No matter what your skin type is, the best way to apply moisturizer is with your hands on slightly damp skin.
- Always making sure you include your eyebrows in the massage. Keep massaging and then start working back toward the sides of your forehead again in an outward motion.
- If your skin is slightly oily, you may need to apply moisturizer only once a day.
- All moisturizers should be applied on moist or damp skin immediately after washing.
